Amanda Bouchet’s A Promise of Fire
It wasn’t fantastic enough to be great. I was interested in the plot. The romance was god intervened and the characters had more than one dimension to them. The voice of the writer, that unique voice that people will look for, is not clear. She writes almost like she’s following the recipe of paranormal romance. Either she’s not comfortable enough with the type of story written down, or her publisher forced things inside of the story she wasn’t adept at writing. I kinda get the feeling she’s never had a romance in this type and ended up leaning too heavy on other poorly written books for knowledge.
All in all, she’ll become a fantastic writer if she never loses herself when writing. She could use a proper writing mentor and a publishing house that presses skill not popularity. I was disappointed when I could’ve been enamored.
