(My grandmother just passed away. I’m going to post a few poems dedicated to her and her passing. This is an older poem.)
Grandmama
Sitting crosslegged
listening intently
of all the previous
battles won
“Oh, Grandmama,
tell us it again”
is what we would say
Grandmama always
lets us play
chess and checkers
cards and books
she’d never tire of it
“Oh, Grandmama,
what shall we do next?”
we would ask
the baking, oh the baking
we’d never tire of that
cakes, cookies,
even bread!
“Oh, Grandmama,
you are the best”
we’d exclaim
each time Mama
called us back
