Poem: Don’t Wanna Have a Meltdown

(Times are making it harder.)

Don’t Wanna Have a Meltdown

I don’t wanna have a meltdown
I’ll just back away slowly
shut off the lights
hide in my blankets

I don’t wanna have a meltdown
let my music play
loud enough to drown out the rest
relax the shoulders

I don’t wanna have a meltdown
I can feel it coming
everything is too loud
everything is too bright

I don’t wanna have a meltdown
stop asking things of me
give me a little space
I really like control

I don’t wanna have a meltdown
my body’s flailing around
grunts are coming out
I didn’t mean to hit

I don’t wanna have a meltdown
you don’t want me to to either
give me time and space
and I’ll be fine in a moment
