[About Cat Hartliebe] [Writer’s Stuff]
One of the things that always gets me when writing, is a random new character appears and is nameless.
I just write. My plotting and planning is limited. I start off and just throw down words of a story. I get from the beginning to the end that way.
More often than not, I get caught up by a missing name.
Even Cyro came to me the other day and asked for a name.
Picking a name can be random. And it can be complex. The name if different from the normal will have an impact. If there is a way to make a punny insult, it would exist. Name matters. And all else fails, just go normal and stick with it.
You may need a new name at some later draft for some reason. I’ve changed many a name from draft to draft. It’s not set in stone until you hit publish. And that’s a good thing.
So I’ll offer a random list of names I found in my drawer for any new writers in need of random list of names. Most are very American. Technically, since every name works in the United States of America, all of them can be used for an American. We include everyone here.

Is that enough for you? Some are definitely more nicknames than names, but who’s counting?
Good luck picking out your new character’s name.
